Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of UPMC Offering Community Wellness Classes

WHAT: Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC) of UPMC, Allegheny Family Network, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Southwestern Pennsylvania now offer a variety of classes for people who want to learn more about mental health issues and addictions.  One in four adults experiences a mental health disorder in any given year.  You may learn practical information, skills, techniques, and receive tools to help yourself and/or your loved ones.

WHO: Interactive classes are taught by experts in the mental health and/or addiction fields, along with family advocates.

WHEN & WHERE: Four classes focused on specific mental health topics will be offered, and each class will be offered on two separate dates.  Participants interested in a class can attend on either date, as each class will be presented twice.

Specific dates and locations are as follows*:

  • “So You or Your Child Has Been Diagnosed with ADHD,” to learn more about medications and different tactics that can help your child and you at home, school, and in the workplace.

  • “Mental Health Concerns and School Issues: What’s in Your Backpack,” to learn more about children’s mental health needs as it relates to schools (public, private, homeschool, etc.).

  • “You Are Not Alone: Facts About Mental Health and Mental Illness,” to learn more about common mental health conditions, and the different treatments available.
