Monongahela Valley Hospital is sponsoring a variety of informative programs this month. Many of the events will be held in the hospital’s Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center (ECC) unless otherwise noted.
Monday, Dec. 2 – Breast Cancer Support Group
2 – 4 p.m., Hospital, 7-East Family Room. This support group is free and open to all breast cancer patients and their families. The group meets the first Monday of each month. For more information, call 724-258-1704.
Monday, Dec. 2 – Innovations – Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
6 p.m., ECC, Daniel T. Stewart, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery, will present a free program to discuss the causes and treatments of carpal tunnel syndrome. This program is part of MVH’s Innovations in Medicine series featuring physician guest speakers providing medical information to the community. Light refreshments will be served and parking is free. Wednesday, Dec. 4 – Bone Density Screening
1 – 3 p.m., Healthy Directions at the Finleyville Giant Eagle. Do you have brittle bones? Have you ever had a bone density test? Thursday, Dec. 5 – Stroke Support Group
1 – 2:30 p.m., ECC. The Stroke Support Group is designed for patients and caregivers to share, learn and grow with people who can personally relate to the daily challenges and struggles they face dealing with strokes and their after-effects. For more information, call 724-258-1455.
Friday, Dec. 6 – Auxiliary Holiday Cookie Tray Sale
10 a.m., Hospital lobby. The Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc. is sponsoring a holiday cookie tray sale. Enjoy your favorite bakery-style cookies now or take a tray home to enjoy during your family holiday celebration. Free parking provided with purchase. Monday, Dec. 9 – Baby Care Class
6:30 – 9:30 p.m., Mon-Vale HealthPLEX. Parents-to-be will learn baby care basics at this instructional session. Topics include home safety, car seat safety, immunizations, breast and bottle feeding, pacifiers, bathing and additional topics. For more information, call 724-258-BABY (2229), ext. 9.
Tuesday, Dec. 10 – Better Breathers Club
2 – 3 p.m., ECC. The Better Breathers Club is free and open to all adults and their family, friends or caregivers who want to learn or share information about living well with breathing issues. 6 – 9 p.m., ECC. This session builds on the education received in the “Managing Your Diabetes” program. 6 – 8 p.m., ECC. This is a diabetes self-management class that focuses on counting carbohydrate intake. Topics range from how to measure the upward drive each meal has on blood sugar to information on the glycemic index. Monday, Dec. 30 – Breastfeeding Class
6:30 – 9:30 p.m., Mon-Vale HealthPLEX. This free class is designed for mothers who plan to breastfeed to help them feel more comfortable and confident while in the hospital after delivery and when returning home.
