Speech therapy is now available as part of VA Butler Healthcare’s Telehealth program. This means Veterans have the opportunity to receive speech therapy services at their local VA Outpatient Clinic instead of traveling to the main facility in Butler.
“Telehealth is not just about technology, it’s about improving our Veterans access to care to give them the right care in the right place at the right time,” said VA Butler’s Speech Language Pathologist Erin Irvin. “It saves both time and money traveling to and from VA Butler for appointments.”
Tele-Speech is where a speech therapist and Veteran “meet” and interact through Clinical Video Telehealth (CVT). CVT is a telecommunications link that allows for instant interaction between Veterans and their Provider or even two Providers, typically via videoconferencing. The CVT Program provides an option for Veterans at all VA Outpatient Clinics to have video communications with doctors physically located at VA Butler via webcam and video system technology.
“Telehealth makes health care more effective because we’re able to tailor to each Veteran’s individual needs while offering them quality care that’s convenient to their home,” said Irvin.
VA Butler Healthcare provides additional CVT programs, some of which include Mental Health, MOVE!, and Smoking Cessation. For more information, Veterans may talk with their health care team at VA Butler or call VA Butler’s Telehealth Coordinator at 724-477-5037.
