Lung Association Urges Pittsburgh to Step Up for National Take the Stairs Day to Support Lung Health

January 12 is National Take the Stairs Day, and the American Lung Association in Pennsylvania is challenging people in the Pittsburgh region to adopt healthy habits in the new year by taking the stairs, and then support lung health by registering for the Fight For Air Climb – Pittsburgh taking place on Saturday, March 19, 2022.

In celebration of National Take the Stairs Day, registrants who sign up for the Lung Association’s 2022 Fight For Air Climb – Pittsburgh today before midnight will receive a National Take the Stairs Day discount using promo code NTTSD.

National Take the Stairs Day is an annual observance on the second Wednesday of January that gives Americans an opportunity to adopt healthy routines like taking the stairs. Stair climbing is a great way to burn calories but is also a simple way to improve your overall health. According to The Journal of the American Medical Association’s Physical Activities Guidelines for Americans, experts recommend small changes to daily activities such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator.

The Lung Association encourages residents to take the stairs on National Take the Stairs Day, and then sign up for the Fight For Air Climb – Pittsburgh to tackle the stairs of PNC Park on Saturday, March 19, 2022. This year, the Fight For Air Climb – Pittsburgh will be held at PNC Park where participants will experience one-of-a-kind views of the city skyline while climbing around the lower bowl of the baseball field. Money raised at the Climb will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is shining an even brighter light on the importance of lung health,” said Steve Gillis, Development Director, Lung Association. “National Take the Stairs Day is a great way to improve your own lung health and your community’s by supporting the Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb.”

The Fight For Air Climb – Pittsburgh challenges residents to climb 1,077 steps in the iconic baseball park. The Lung Association is also offering a “Climb Your Way” option for those who can’t make it to the physical event. Proof of vaccination will be required to participate in-person.
