Jameson Hospital Introduces New Asthma Care Service

And Provides Free Asthma Screenings at Community Open House Event

Jameson Health System introduces Jameson Asthma Care, a service dedicated to diagnosis, treatment and ongoing control of asthma.  A free asthma screening and community open house event will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Jameson Lung Center, first floor Jameson Hospital North Campus, 1211 Wilmington Avenue, New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Jameson Asthma Care will provide diagnostic testing to determine the level and severity of the asthma as well as provide educational resources and workshops by trained asthma educators and respiratory therapists. A visit at the clinic will guide the patient toward necessary resources to manage conditions, which may require new medications, treatments, procedures or pulmonary rehabilitative services.

“Asthma ranks among the most common chronic conditions in the country, affecting an estimated 14.9 million people. And a growing portion of our population suffers from asthma,” shares Michelle Lum, director of respiratory services at Jameson Hospital. “There are people who are living with uncontrolled asthma, and oftentimes they don’t realize that there are resources available to live better – different medications, new treatments and rehabilitation. We look forward to building that awareness.”
The event on Tuesday will give patients and their loved ones an opportunity to speak with trained asthma educators, participate in a free diagnostic screening to determine asthma severity and find new resources for asthma treatment and management.

Debbie Thompson, RN, BSN, director of surgical services and ambulatory care at Jameson Health System, oversees the Jameson Lung Center that will now encompass Jameson Asthma Care as a specialty care clinic. “It’s not known why asthma rates are rising. What is known is that most people with asthma can control their symptoms and prevent attacks,” shares Mrs. Thompson. “This is one of the reasons that we want to bring concentrated asthma care to our community. Working in conjunction with local primary care physicians and pulmonologists, our goal is to develop a plan of care to help you manage your disease and empower you with the knowledge and the resources to live life fully.”

Event registration will be conducted onsite. For more information, please contact 724-656-4145 or visit www.jamesonhealth.org/asthma.
