J.C. Blair Offers Free Diabetes Self-Management Classes

J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital has announced its 2014 schedule of free diabetes self-management classes.  The first class of 2014 includes four morning sessions that begin January 21. One class is held every week for four weeks from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the J.C. Blair Education Center across the parking lot from the Hospital. Individual counseling sessions take place before the first group session.  The classes are free but pre-registration is required at least two weeks in advance. A series of evening classes will begin in April.

The diabetes self-management classes are designed for diabetic patients and their families to learn about diabetic control, prevention, detection, and treatment of diabetes complications. Attendees will be empowered to take responsibility for their own treatment regimens.

J.C. Blair staff is committed to educating newly diagnosed diabetes patients or patients who are struggling with controlling their diabetes. The sessions cover all aspects of managing diabetes with the goal of preventing, minimizing or delaying the onset of complications when the disease is not managed well. There is still time to enroll in the first session; however, space is limited. For more information or to register, please call (814) 643-8537.
