Pirates alumni and announcer Steve Blass to emcee 2013 Walk

Family Hospice and Palliative Care offers families and individuals the opportunity to remember loved ones in a special way at its Annual Memorial Walk on Sunday morning, October 6, at the North Shore Riverfront Park (next to Jerome Bettis’ Grille 36). The 3K Walk is open to the public.

“We invite people from the Greater Pittsburgh area to honor their loved ones at the Memorial Walk,” said Barbara Ivanko, President and CEO of Family Hospice and Palliative Care. “This is a family-friendly event in a beautiful setting – and we’re finding it has become an annual tradition for many.”

The $25 Memorial Walk registration fee includes a Walk T-shirt. Children age 12 and under walk free; and children’s T-shirts may be purchased for $10. Pets on a leash are welcome. Pittsburgh Pirates alumni and broadcaster Steve Blass will emcee the festivities.

Highlighting this year’s Walk is a memorial Tribute Package which includes two video screens, displaying the photos and names of those being remembered, presented by UPMC and Trib Total Media. The Tribute Package also includes a flower that may be cast into the river, and a wine toast in remembrance of those who have died (toast open to those 21 and over with legal I.D.). Tribute Packages may be purchased for a $20 donation each.

The Family Hospice Memorial Walk also features entertainment, complimentary refreshments, and family activities. NewsRadio 1020 KDKA will be on-site, allowing young walkers to record their own KDKA “KidKast” for free. Plus, kids can meet the Eat n’ Park Smiley Cookie mascot, and “Wylie” the fish mascot, from Rivertowne Brewing.

Registration and pre-walk festivities begin at 9 a.m. at North Shore Riverfront Park, with the Walk starting at 10 a.m. Parking is available in Gold Lot 2 along North Shore Drive, for a flat rate of $3.

Family Hospice serves an average of 3,800 patients annually in nine counties. Proceeds from the Memorial Walk support a number of supportive and life-enhancing services to patients and their loved ones that are provided free of charge.
