Asbury Heights Hosts Chronic Disease Workshops for Community

Asbury Heights, a comprehensive care retirement community in Mt. Lebanon, invites the public to “Better Choices, Better Heath,” a series of workshops focused on the management of ongoing health conditions such as high blood pressure, arthritis and chronic pain. Sessions are free and open to adults age 60 and older. Programs will be held at Asbury Heights, 700 Bower Hill Rd., from 1 to 3:30 p.m. each Monday between April 16 and May 21.

Participants will discover practical ways to manage pain and fatigue, learn how to improve nutrition and exercise habits, hear about new treatment options and learn better ways to talk with family members and doctors about health.

“Chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease do not have to negatively impact quality of life,” says Marcy Byers, director of Health & Wellness, Asbury Heights. “By taking control of their health and wellbeing, patients with ongoing health issues can learn how to feel better and get back to doing the things they love the most.”

Individuals uncertain about attending all six workshops can register for an informational session hosted by John Miller, project coordinator, Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, Allegheny County Department of Human Services/Area Agency on Aging. This program will be held on Monday, March 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Asbury Heights and offer participants a general overview about the Better Choices, Better Health workshops.

Registration is required for Better Choices, Better Health and the informational session. Call 412-571-5220 or email mbyers@asburyheights.org to reserve your seat.

This program is a partnership between Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging, the United Way of Allegheny County and Vintage, Inc.
