All Consumers Deserve Health Care Transparency

The New York Times and other outlets have reported recently that the newly-bankrupted city of Detroit is considering shifting some of its municipal retirees, not eligible for Medicare, onto the new health insurance exchanges due to open in October. In doing so, the Motor City would be joining other cash-strapped municipalities across the country — from Sheboygan, WI to Stockton, CA – who are looking to address the burden of retiree health care costs.

These retirees, and all consumers taking on more responsibility for their health care, deserve to have readily available, reliable and understandable information about price and quality so they can be smart health care shoppers.
