Twenty Years and Going Strong: Longwood at Oakmont

LAO Sig H Tag RGBFond remembrances, fine food and festivities will be on tap when the accredited, award- winning Longwood at Oakmont residential retirement community celebrates its 20th Anniversary on Saturday, September 22 at its Plum Borough campus. A Presbyterian SeniorCare affiliate, Longwood at Oakmont is blessed to have several 20-year residents who are excited to share how they enjoy the vibrant community’s amenities and atmosphere:

  • Mrs. Betty Cummings, who initially resisted moving to Longwood at Oakmont, thinking she and her husband were “too young” but now “can’t imagine living anywhere else.” Mrs. Cummings, 93, stays active by golfing nine holes twice a week and playing bridge.
  • Mrs. Mary Hanna, who with others founded the community’s library, credits her involvement there and “all the wonderful offerings of music and lectures” with enriching her life and keeping her engaged.
  • Reverend John Scott, whose children live out of the area, comments, “It’s wonderful to have the relief and confidence that comes with living in this community, along with knowing my children don’t have to worry about me.” He adds, “There’s never a dull moment here at all!” and counts the lecture series, movies and dining options among his favorite things.

Cura Hospitality, Longwood at Oakmont’s dining services partner, has a team of chefs preparing a grand assortment of fresh and delicious appetizers for the evening including beef wellington, red pepper and avocado shooters, and garden vegetable and Chèvre Fritters with white bean paste and basil lime oil. Scallops made-to order; lollipop lamb chops; and smoked artichoke bottoms stuffed with gorgonzola mousse are just a few of the other treats on the menu. Residents and their guests will enjoy performances by the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, a jazz band and strolling magician. The celebration will run from 6 – 9 p.m.

The event is for Longwood at Oakmont residents and guests and is not open to the public.
